Actually, the 157 was the later design. In the early 60's, the smaller wheel was 160, and it was altered slightly to 157, probably to strengthen the teeth. The 157 is a direct replacement for the 160. The ring gear was used on both the auto trans flex plate, and on the manual trans flywheel, so that changed to 157, too.
