So I turn 1800rpm @ 60mph in 5th gear ('88 GT 5-speed) - whats my rear end ratio?

edit: With 225/60/15 tires + turbine wheels

either 2.73 or 3.08, i think 2.73 though

Did '88 GT 5spds ever come with 3.08s or anything other than 2.73s?

i turn 1950 rpm at 60 and thats with 3.55 gears, so i'd say you have 3.08s.

I've got 2.73s and at 60 MPH in 5th I'm on the verge of stalling. What's odd is that I thought the 88s came stock with 2.73s as well.

Either 3.08's or 3.27's.....Definitly not 2.73's. But since your car is stock then I'd say 3.08's for sure. They came standard with 2.73, with an option of 3.08's.....never anything higher than that.

Check on the code by your door where it latches for something like this,

The letter M stands for 2.73s, anything other than that the car came with 3.08s. You could also take your VIN number and the same codes where the AX is and enter them into www.mustanggt.org . It will tell you more about what came on your car.

i think it is always best to check the DS to wheel ratio - who knows what someone has done with the gearing.

Jack the back up and count how many times the driveshaft turns over for 1 tire revolution. Tachs and speedos are notoriously inaccurate - so using them to determine rear gear can be inaccurate. Tags on the rear end or vin info only helps if you know the complete history of the car and that the rear gear and/or entire rear end hasn't been swapped out. Count - it's the only way to be certain.

When I had stock gears, I was cruising 80mph at 2000rpm's. I now am a little over 2K at 60mph, so I would say probally 3.55's. It's hard to say, go with Michael's advise.

i have a 93 that come stock w/ 3.08 and its a 5 spd...honestly i dont know what it cruises at the guy i bought it from put 3.55 or 3.73's in it...check the differential to find out

Let's not get into THAT again

I have to set it straight though. Auto's came standard with 2.73, with an option (the only option) of 3.27 gears. 5 speeds also came with 2.73 standard, with the only option being 3.08.

OK, I looked at my doortag and saw the axle code was Z.. so I went to http://www.mustanggt.org and it says that's for 3.08 gears

2.73 rear that is what mine turned before i put gears into it.
