I know that a late model mustang 17" wheel wont work on the front of a 68 Mustang without spacers because it hits the upper ball joint, but will an 18" clear the ball joint. There are so many wheels on ebay in 18" that look really good and i thought that this might be an alternative...I know the wheels will probably tuck under, but I plan on maybe using air bags, so thants kinda what I am going for...

what size are your tires, i guess you have rolled the fenders?

The tires are 245/40. The lips have benn hammered & dollied flat. Plus a small pie shaped piece of material was removed from the lower front corner of the wheel opening...this was recommended by the guy doing the bodywork/paint from his experience building vintage and open track race car.

wheels & tires w/GW

I have wondered what is the widest rim you could run with the GW upper & lowers. I will be needing wheels in the near future for my 67 and was curious if 9" wheels would fit. I guess 245's on an 8" are the widest you can go? Thanks

While I'm not exactly sure how the GW components impact the fitment. I've read a lot about what will fit on a stock 67-68 and I personally wouldn't go with any wider than 245s on an 8 for the front. You would need need roughly 5.5 inches of backspacing for a nine. That's a lot.

If you want a nice lowered stance, nines just don't fit without issues.
