Hey there.
I have a 65 coupe. My turn signal was replaced about a year ago. But what I am trying to find out is why I have to cancel it all the time? When I turn the wheel back the signal keeps going until I manually cancel it.

Is this correct? Is there a way to have an auto cancelling turn signal in a 65?

Thanks

On the back of the steering wheel hub, there should be a ring with two ribs on it. The "release fingers" on the turn signal switch hit the ribs to cancel. If these are broken, missing or out of place, the turn signals will not cancel.

All Mustangs had self-cancelling turn signals.

The steel cams on the back of the steering wheel are rarely a problem, but the nylon arms on the switch do break off. Of course, if you have an aftermarket steering wheel, there may be no cam on it at all.

there was an adaptor kit that i also was told to buy.
it was installed by my mechanic.

would this cancelling peice be in the adaptor kit?

Yes, he likely left out the pins that do this.

They could be replaced, most likely that's the cause. Personally, I'd replace the wheel. My opinion, formed over the last 40 years or so, of Grant wheels is not repeatable in a family setting.

I'd rather have this. Cost about twice the grant wheel, 10 times the quality, even Carroll Shelby used it in the 80's.

I am keeping my new repop factory steering wheel.

I'm not a fan of grant wheels either. They basically suck.

Ok, so to sum up this thread, yes, the 1965-1966 mustang had automatic cancelling when the turn was complete? I've been bugged by this on my '66 also. I have to cancel it all the time.
