I'm about to get around to putting a speaker system and cd player in my '66 convertible. I'm not concerned about anything origional...just looking for a good set of subs, and some speakers that'll let me hear my music over the wind noise. Any recommendations?

lol...one noob tellin another noob to use the search! thats funny right there.

Anyway, to answer your question, any 6x9 even a 5x8 speaker will fit in your rear package tray. I suggest a 3way speaker...any name brand and a small amp to them. I also suggest some 5 1/4" kick panel speakers....with a small amp run to them. As for a sub....you may not need it if you box in your 6x9s and add the small amp to them.

As for what brand....just buy name brand that fits your budget and you will be fine. I get a lot of stuff on ebay or craigslist.org

just bought kick panel speaker blanks.

no one really says what size they really are. THEY HOLD 5.25" SPEAKERS. not 6 or 6.5. At least these from mustangsplus. You can't change them to make them fit 6.5s either- there would be no lip for attachment.

They are shallow too- most should fit though.

Currently I have the 5.25s coax in the kick panels, and 3.5" (with bass blockers) in the orig. 4x10 spot. I'm planning to going to 6.5 components, with the tweets angeled in the 4x10 spot. I'm not happy with the outcome of the 5.25 wanna-be component setup I have now. I'll have to make a spacer for the 6.5s to work- not sure how I'm gonna do that yet.

also have a 10" sub in the rear, with cd deck in the glovebox, with remote- that's nice.

I got crazy and custom installed 6x9s in the rear seat area- in between the power top cylinders and the chasis, then I custom punched holes in the vinyl covers so I could have 'rear fill' sound. yeah, not worth the time. get loud front speakers, and a sub and call it done.

and hey everyone, he's got a convertible like mine- no 6x9s. (for the normal sane folks)
6.5s in the quarter panels??
