Hey guys i am Ed and i am new to the post. I just bought 2 1966 mustangs. The first is very good shape with no rust and the second is a parts car. I am doing the conversion from a 6 to an 8. I have 2 motors a 289 and a 302. I want to put the 302 in but not sure yet. Another thing i am wondering about the transmission. I am looking for a toploader 4sp and i have a list of tag#'s but wonder if the length of the trans would matter in the different years or are they the same. I don't want to change the shift hole in the floor. Also the radiator that is in there is very small. I realize i can't use the same one but I wondered if a bigger 3core or 4 would bolt on. Should i get a 66 rad only or will others fit. At this point i am just seeing what i have and can save before i go buy. Any of you that have done this and can provide me with any info would be great but at this point these are the questions i have. Thanks guys
Ed

Welcome to the forums.
There's been many detailed writeups on the 6 to 8 swap that you can find by using the search function, atleast a few should come up. As for the radiator, larger ones can fit with fabrication, but unless your pushing some pretty heavy power, a stock sized 3 or 4 row radiator should work fine. There's many solutions to running a cooler car: new rad, aftermarket hi-flow waterpump, water wetter.
Good luck!

65-66 Mustangs are notorious for rapidly outgrowing their cooling systems. Save your self a lot of grief, use a system like this, http://www.midnightdsigns.com/Mustang/aluminum_radiator_install.html
The price on the AFCO is about the best though a "racing aplication" Summit, Northern, or Griffin will work also. The key in using this method & saving$$ is to order a generic raciing application radiator, not a custom built for a specific year car.
