My current setup on a 1968 fastback.

Coys C-67 17x8 with 4.5 backspacing
Nitto 555 235/45/17 tires
New Gas-adjust shocks
1 inch sway bar
1 inch lowering spings through Laurel Mountain Mustang

The front right tire rubs like crazy on the outboard side. I thought that the original springs were worn out so I purchased the 1 inch lowering springs to avoid the "riding high" look. Now it just sits lower and rubs more. I have a 351 windsor with cast iron heads if this is any help for how much weight is in the front. Will new stock front springs sit at a normal height? I heard that it takes them time to settle down? I know that these wheels fit on these cars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. What alignment specs are you running on the car?
2. Assuming you don't know lower the upper A arms (aka shelby drop) and then have car aligned to have more (like negative camber -0.5)

Car will corner better and most likely eliminate your rub since your alignment is what is causing the issue. If you don't want to drop the arms...you can still try a simply alignment to better specs to resolve the problem.

There are different rate springs. You may have taken out old spring and put in softer ones which would change the stance of the car. Do you know what spring rate those new springs are ?

I agree that putting some negative camber in the front might help, but I've honestly never seen a vintage Mustang with 17x8's on the front that sat anywhere near low. People use the old, "it all depends on the offset" line, but again, seeing is believing and I have yet to see it.

If it hasn't already been done, rolling the fender lips may be another step in the right direction. As already alluded to, stiffer springs and a good alignment should also help. Every little bit adds up and helps.
