Does anyone know if an original 1970 Mustang 302 engine block had a D0ZE-6015-A casting numer or did they use 1969 motors which would be C9ZE-6015-A casting number? I have a 1970 that originally came with a 302 and I want to put the car back original since it is a numbers matching car. Please help ASAP. Thanks.

According to my book, the 70 302's would have had a C8OE-A, C8TE-B, C9TE-C or a D1OE-AA. This book isn't 100% accurate though. A C9ZE-A or DOZE-A would be a Boss 302 block (I'm almost sure of). It would do you better to look at the date codes on the block to determine if it's the original block. The date code would have to work out to be cast in a 1-2 month's time frame before the car's build date to be considered orignal.

The car does not have an engine. I was trying to go back with what was installed at the factory. If date codes will come in to play that will be fifficult. I have a C8 block so I may just go back with it. Thanks.

Matching the date codes will be the best way to get what you're looking for. JUst me, but I'd skip worrying about that aspect and go with a late model roller 302 instead. Better engine all around than a 70 spec'd motor. What you'd want here is a 94-97 pickup/van 5.0 long block and cam or a 96-2001 Explorer 5.0 and carb it.

Or an 87-90 motor. Factory forged pistons.

I didn't mention the 87-91 HO motor due to the fact these are harder to find in unmolested condition and the forged pistons aren't really neccessary anyway.

They are a lot easier to find out here in LA, so many Fox Mustangs out here it isn't even funny. Altho, it has started to become harder but they are still reasonably plentiful out here.

The easiest way to an HO motor is buy an 88-93 Lincoln Mark VII LSC. These things sell for less than a grand in most cases. If you're going to rebuild, it's better to just go with a non HO motor.
