Hi -
I just bought a 1971 Ford galaxie w/a 351 2V with 90K original miles....he claimed it was a cleveland ....but the water neck is vertical ...not "up" and the valve covers aren't slanted up either.....so I figure it's a Windsor.....it's a "time capsule"....I plan on pulling it....it runs tight ....reworking the heads....new cam and run it in a 90 thru 93 mustang.....anyone know the spec's on this year?...

The compression ratio is around 9 to 9.5 to 1. Basically the same heads the 69 4bbl Windsor had, just slightly larger combustion chambers. Port the heads, slap a good cam in it, add a high rise intake on it, plus a better ignition than the points it's got. You'll have basically a "lightning" 5.8 motor.

does the coolant neck come out of the block or the intake? if the intake then it is a windsor. look at the fuel pump mount, are they horizontal or vertical? if vertical then you have a cleveland or other 335 series engine. look at the timing cover, does it separate from the block or is it cast in? if separate you have a windsor.

[Thanks for all of the help.]....I plan on posting a few pictures ....I may have made a mistake about saying the that water inlet/ neck is vertical....it's Horizontal...I pick up the car this Friday.....counted the bolts on the valve covers....(6) Six.....plus they are the smaller covers....so it's probably a Windsor........my plan is pretty much what was suggested here.....pop the heads and have them re-worked....SS valves ...new springs ...I'm looking for a high HP .. torque monster....a real real lumpy flat tappet cam.....gear drive (I know they are not good unless it's a drag car) ...but I need that noise....but have it streetable ...pwr steering....air....any suggestions are greatly appreciated....

you do have teh windsor. just a suggestion, rather than spend the money refurbishing stock heads, go out and buy a set of world products windsor sr heads. the cost will be about the same and you will gain about 40hp or so, and will have room for even more if you like.

Thanks ...I will look into that...hey...hate to bug ya ... but...any suggestions on a flat tappet cam kit?...I was going to use the stock rockers ......I figure for what I need ...for the lumpy affect....it's Ok....I at first bought a 78 351M motor out of a ranchero ....there's a guy I found who runs the hot rodder program here in AZ at UTI ...he was going to rebuild that for me....but when I went to the speed shop to buy a 400 crank ...they said I needed a core and the cost of the crank + the core was what I bought this original 71 ltd w 90K on it and it has 351W.....but for that 351M motor he suggested a cam .530 Lift and 282 deg of adv duration ...for the choppy idle I would like ......I plan on running an average 5.0 mustang rear end in it......what you think?.....thanks ...sorry about all these questions ...I'm more of a paint and body person...worked at Bod shop when I was a teenager....
