Hey guys, need some help from the classic section....

My father is going to look at a 1971 Mach 1...now , we know its a 351 but what we can't figure out is...

On the back, on the trunk...it says "Mach 1" in small block letters to the right but across the back of the actual trunk lip it says COBRA, in block letters (more like a decal though) spread across the lip...

Now, most we've seen, they have said MACH 1 spread across that part and no cobra decal.

Now we can't figure out what it is...I'm thinking the owner put that on himself for a look...I dunno...

Was there any special editions that came out? Or anything?

A friend of mine once bought a '73 Torino fastback "Cobra." What made it the Cobra package were the two Cobra snake emblems the previous owner applied to the car. Of course Ford never made a '73 Torino "Cobra." What I'm saying is that just because the car has Cobra badging on it doesn't make it a Cobra edition.
In all of my reading I have never seen or heard of the '71 Mach 1 Cobra. Somebody probably just put the decal on the car.

definitelly not a Cobra, the only Cobra made in 71 was the Torino Cobra. i would also check to make sure it's a real mach 1 too and that he didn't just add the mach 1 badges too.

Thanks for the help guys...

So ya, the guy who had it ended up putting that COBRA sticker on the back..
It is a Mach 1-- and its a 351 Cobra Jet...now I thought only the 428's or 9's were cobra jet but apparantly this is a 4valve 351 with low compression...

Anyone know more on these? And maybe what its worth? It's in fair condition, will need paint...not much rust (if any) and drives straight and smooth...he drives it every weekend...

351 CJ

I am not too sure of the value of these Mustangs

I have a 71 351 CJ that I am restoring. This makes it a Q code car, I know that they only made 144 total cars with that motor in 71. I am sure that they will gain value. As far as I know This is only the second one that I have heard of.

I will have to look but I have the production numbers at home, I think that they only made 5 in the convert this year. I will post all the info later so you can have it
