I got a short little video of FIFI taxiing and taking off a couple years ago when I just happened to be at Meacham Airport in Fort Worth where it's based getting my A&P. Impressive machine.

They would have taken my dad up for free. My brother and I would have had to pay, but they didn't have enough people for an afternoon flight. But we did get a private tour of the cockpit. My dad and an even older gentleman who was a B-24 Flight Engineer got private tours and an ovation from the people waiting in line for us to get done! That was cool.

@CarMichael Angelo I'm hoping after some drinks, you'll have whatever this snag is figured out and then be on to producing videos of BOOST!

My finger
No, I'm serious...I adjusted throttle opening on the middle tb , and then progressively worked from the center outward pressing on the throttle blade ( with my FINGER) and adjusting the respective idle screw until all " lash" was removed from the other tb's

Trying to use a vacuum gauge proved fruitless, as all the gauge needle did was bounce with each pulse of the engine.

Well, since, he has done away with the ITBs, isn't balancing them a moot point? I know that ITBs, and dual throat webers are cool and all that, but are they really worth all the trouble on all but all out racing machines?
The reason he asks is that he is considering buying an ITB system.

AND.....

But other than getting everything hooked up and sync'd they were hardly a hassle
If I hadn't decided to put a turbo on my car, they'd still be there. Once tuned, there was no trouble.
The car idled lower, and more smoothly than it ever did with the present setup. I cannot testify as to whether or not it ran better, and I'll never know..now that they're off, I doubt ill ever change them back.

Ford used the butane/propane method to set the idle speeds on the four corner Holley 4180C 4-bbls carbs on the 5.0's for 1983 to 1985. Its got nothing to do with jet size.

Plastic tubing the sealed off Speed Density system on idle is the best way.

Holden's Triple Zenith Stromberg CD 175's on the GTR XU-1 used the Syncrotest;

For Speed Density, EFi, that doesn't work.

You can make your own if you want to tune your six Mikuni Carb X flow

The easiest is manometer or gauges

So I was watching Car W@nkers or whatever that show is where they buy some car cheap and then a stubby English guy with dark hair yells at you while EDD tweaks the poppets.

They had a '76 Maserati (I think) and they called in a tuning specialist. He used a flow meter on each of all EIGHT 1bbl carbs, one at a time. He had to turn the idle down to the same or similar level on each carb and balance the inflow rate x 8. Then they needed TWO guys to set the timing: one under to read the balancer mark and one on top to back off the rotor . Once he got the flow, idle and timing in place, oddly enough, the thing ran better and used less fuel.

BTW, he backed the timing off from about 30* to 14*. Someone had been bumping it up as his performance degraded due to carbs out of adjustment. I can see where EFI and electronic ignition would make a huge difference in EIGHT carbies.

Actually the 1973 Lamborghini Urraco P250S, the underpowered early version before it got 3 liters.

With quad Weber IDF carbs feeding the V8, it had this process to follow from 28 to 33 minutes

Sychrotest

Here is the partly dyslexic flipped and reversed video that makes a right hander Left hand drive in the service bay, and back to RHD on the road.

It can be done with just some homebrew plastic, MDF back board, a linear scale, food coloring and you balance one throttle against the other. Crossfire TBi Vettes early learning project for me. Que the mother of all throttle bodies cross fired corvette throttle synchronization

If its turboed, you just have to figure out a way to have it work in a sealed subchamber.

What nobody knows here is that I just got back home. Been in Florida since Friday, moving my MIL's stuff out of her apartment and putting it in storage.
She died last week.
Not completely unexpected for me, she has been abusing her body with obesity and living the last several years under the influence of opioids, and NSAIDs,....... That abuse finally took its toll...she had an internal bleed that went septic as a result of the destroyed stomach lining from the pills, and she died on the table.

When I had my knees replaced, the dr prescribed some 10mg opioid pain reliever for me..I took them long enough for the unpleasant side effect to start ( constipation) and stopped taking them in a matter of a week. Despite the small dosage, and the short time taking them, the decision to stop resulted in a case of withdrawal for me...anxiety, nervousness, and weird emotion sht....
After a freakin week.

How people take mega dosage(s) of this sht and function blows me away...Kate's mom had been taking these things for freakin years!...And in between swallowing handfuls of Ibuprophen to make the " good sht" last.
Ultimately, I guess it was the Ibuprophen that brought about her end..

The Dr's always said to me " that stuff will tear your stomach up" when I told them my daily ritual was 800mg of Ibuprophen before the knee surgery,...And up until last week, if I overdid it in the garage,...that was what I'd take so that my new knees would stop screaming at me.
Now, after being witness to how bad it could get when things go wrong,...I'm gonna have to rethink my pain management regimen.

sorry for your loss.
My gastro doc said ibuprofen is what keeps him in business.
I was given some crazy cough meds once that gave me weird out of body side effects. I won't take any of that crap anymore, i agree i don't understand how people drink that stuff for the high.

Well,....moving on.

Got the throttle cable installed. Works perfectly. Why I constantly have to make things harder by building some contraption instead of just sucking it up and buying the solution I need is beyond me.

So...lesson learned.

Now that that is behind me, I'll need to build some contraption to replace the other contraption that I built to help control the blowby.:chin:jester:

If you take ibuprofen or more that a single baby aspirin, be sure to take omeprazole to control the acid and reduce problems from too much stomach acid. It is over the counter or prescription (cheaper if you have prescription coverage) and it works good. I have been taking it every night for the last 30 years or so with no problems.

Sorry about the MIL.

When I had rotator cuff surgery about 9 years ago, they gave me oxy. I had a nerve block for the surgery and the doc said make sure you take this or when that nerve block wears off, you will regret it. So I took one before bed and then when I woke up. My brother asked me how my shoulder was. I said...wait let me see. I had to think about it. It still throbbed like hell, but I had to look at it and think about it. If I didn't think about it, I had no idea what was going on. Actually, other than drinking water and peeing, I had no idea what was going on in general. So I quickly quit taking that :poo:.
