Here's my BB restrictor (left) sitting next to a 0.41" journal bearing restrictor. As far as I know, journal bearings always use restrictors, at least on street cars.

According to Garrett that's not accurate. 40-45 psi for bb turbo "which translates into roughly a .040 orifice"

Interesting. It must be turbo specific then. My restrictor came straight from Comp. For what it's worth, Comp said their BB turbos need nearly no oil, so maybe that's why my restrictor is super tiny.

That is interesting. . Lol! I looked at garrett, precision, turbonetics, and on3 and they all are the same spec as far as I recollect. . However I believe the latter three are copies of garrett, so go figure. Comp is made in Brazil I believe?... and have their own design if I'm not mistaken.... fwiw.

Gee,...I thought the turbo wanted all the oil I could bathe it in as long as I could drain it all back into the pan. I have a modified -4 fitting that has the top milled off that will allow me to drop in any size n2o pill to use as a restrictor if that is required.

And to answer the question @Boosted92LX , @RacEoHolic330 , @LarsD

No,.....I do not have no stinkin' BB turbo. I gotta poor mans BW SX300 journal bearing turbo.

B itches.

Today started w/ two big assed needles.

Two big assed needles filled w/ about 50 CC's of some steroid so that my knees will function for another 30-60 days.

I don't know if any of you have to undergo this procedure but let me tell you this.

Before the injections, I'm 50% worthless. I hurt to walk, it REALLY hurts to have the knee bent, and kneeling on them is a "You just wait till tonight" waiting to happen.

After the injections. I'm 70% good. It still hurts, but now the pain is tolerable. Mr. Hyde goes back inside, I become a much nicer guy.

One hour after the injections I'm on the hunt for brass, and bolts. Bolts to hold down Mikes' homemade, glued together valve cover, and brass fittings so that I could plumb the electronic boost solenoid.
The bolts could only be had at Fastenal. I needed (3) 3" long 1/4-20 SS bolts for one side, and (3) 3.5" long for the other.

Did they have them? Only in black. I ordered the SS pieces, and bought the black ones cause I wanted to fasten the valve cover down.

I Hylomared that pig up, and installed the intake (dawns on me the only part that I haven't given a name to), and piddled around on that side of the bay for about an hour after.

I googled how to plumb the megasquirt EBC, and followed a schematic appropriate for my application.

Here's where I typically shoot the day in the foot (or in the knee).

My anal side creeps in.

Not content to just use rubber vacuum tubing, Not content to use silicone hose, Not content to use braided hose, I decide that plumbing the things in hard line is the only way I'll be happy, and keep them from having to be routed carefully away from the hot parts of the turbo system. (that would be all parts of the turbo system)

So,...how long does it take to do it this way then?

About two-three hours I guess. It took the morning to get stabbed in the knees, and chase parts, the afternoon just goes by so fast when you're having fun after that.
And the parts chasing in the morning never seems to end. A careful eye will see that I don't have the line from the turbo attached, I ran out of push-loc fittings. Gotta do that tomorrow.

That looks bad ass

Also, you may have mentioned it already.. 100 times... but from my experience i really think you are going to want a turbo blanket.
fwiw..

ps- Sorry to hear about the knees. I got a cortisone shot in my foot last year. NOT fun.

Sadly, no.. I'm still using the .96 a/r blanket from my on3 kit. I think they're pretty much interchangable between brands as long as you get the housing size correct.

I'm only sorry about having to get the shots before they freeze, then stick me.

It's so much better afterwards. The right one is gonna have to go sometime this year, I'm just trying to get the car built, cause it'll be different after that.

Not according to my Dr. He said that in my physical condition I'd be a real quick recovery, but frowned on me ever crawling around, "taking a knee", or doing anything overly physical (i.e. jumping out of a plane) again.

That honestly reminds me of what I see when I open the engine cowlings on the aircraft I work on. Purpose-built, quality craftsmanship, shiny and pretty and looks expensive as hell.

That engine bay looks incredible. Go easy on those knees...

I'm sure the housings are cast overseas somewhere. They cut their own billet turbine blades in house and assemble them all in Cali as well.

Good to know about the restrictors in journal bearings though. I figured they all needed them. I guess any engine with a high volume pump would mean a restrictor is necessary to keep around that 40 psi pressure.

That brings back memories... 12 years as an aircraft mechanic, 9 of the 12 years as an FAA licensed Airframe & Powerplant mechanic. It definitely does change the way mechanical things get done.

Not much Gila Monsterin' today. Mostly chasing parts.

I have had the hose kit for the AC system for months so today I decided to cut the hoses, install the ends so as to get them "clocked" right and took the whole mess 40 minutes to the north wher I have a guy that can crimp them for me for cheap. Since I had to do down town to get the push lock fittings, I called another guy I know in a driveshaft shop and told him that I had a poppa bear driveshaft out of my fairmont that was waaaay too long, and I had a mama bear drive shaft out of a 99 Mustang that was waay too short, and I was calling to see if he could combine the two to make a baby bear driveshaft that would be just right.
He said bring em on down.
So I did.

I started at the brass shop, and took back the fittings that I didn't use, and dude didn't want to bother refunding/exchanging, so he just let me have what I needed. Even Steven.

I dropped the driveshafts off at the other dude, and he told me to come by in a couple hours and he'd have me fixed up.

I went on to the hose shop, and had other dude compress the 12 ends that make up my six hoses. He does that while I wait.

He comes out in ten minutes and says "how about ten bucks". I said "That's great but I never carry cash, I'll go get you some from an ATM." He says "Don't bother, you can catch me next time".

Uhh negative Ghost Rider,...when you have a guy that does what most AC shops do and charges you about a 10th of what they'd charge you, You damn well go to an ATM. Which I did. I returned ten minutes later w/ a 20, and told dude to have lunch on me.

I call Driveshaft dude, and he has my baby bear shaft all finished up. "How much do I need to bring you?" I ask "Well to cut the 99 shaft so I could use that slip yoke, You needed a new U joint, I shortened the Fairmont shaft and welded the 99 junk onto your Fairmont shaft, and finished by balancing the assembly, hows 70 bucks sound?"

"I'm on my way"

I pick up baby bear and head for home, a whole 90 bucks lighter for the day, and not feeling the least bit bad about it.

Again, by the time I get home it's afternoon. While I was in the car, I called my turbo supplier, and he said that he wanted me to let that dog eat. He had no problem w/ 90 PSI at the turbo oil supply, so who am I to argue?

I set out putting the hoses in place permanently. The -10 suction is a giant pain in the ass because it over laps w/ the -6 onm one end, and the -8 at the compressor. needless to say, I was strugglin to make it work.

I think I got it.

Before it gets to busy wiring wise, I needed to get the hoses from the evap plumbed through the bulkhead connectors while i could still get my hands and a wrench on them.

They exit here.

Then follow along the inner fender where the -6 goes to a front mounted receiver/drier, and that pain in the ass - 10 takes a Jinkydoo and turns under the frame rail.

There's also a braided -10 that is the water return line from the heater that goes through a bulk head and I plumb that into the upper radiator hose.

Tomorrow, it's back to the hose shop (I forgot the -8) only this time I'll take it to Oreillys, where they'll charge me as much to make one hose as my guy did to make 5.

Yea.
