Ok boys and girls. This is one of the things that many of us talk about, some of us have started, and none of us have ever really completed.

So...

Here's the beginning. I will update as you guys add, update, or delete things through your comments and contributions. I'll even take whatever spreadsheets some of you guys probably have lying around. We'll populate this thing and make it searchable at the same time.

I have books. You all got books... A few items a week and it will all be catalogued in no time.

Read and Bleed everybody! I know that not all of these values are correct but I wanted to start somewhere.

Lemme know. Also... I have only validated a few of these lines by spot checking. So by all means... Lemme know where the errors are. Last note that I've based a lot of this on a 1989 GT. There may be variance between all the years and not all the values listed are 1989 specific.

Why do they say in the Torque Value (ft-lbs) for let's say the A-Arms to Crossmember why does it say 110-150 why not just say 150?

It really comes down to hardware and application. For parts like the A-Arm there is a minimum torque required to ensure that the component functions correctly and maximum torque that if exceeded can case it to [not] function correctly.

If you're somewhere [in the range] then you're operating that component inside of conditions for which it was designed and tested.

Another reason for torque ranges is variance from one tool or another or even the operational environment. Aircraft for instance: Things begin to snap and break through heat cycles. The actual break torque on a piece of hardware is wildly different at different temperatures. The final torque on hardware would take the expansion and contraction into account as well. Big difference in temp between 30,000 feet and sea level.

Just for kicks I'll use the Pill Bottle example:

At 100 ft/lbs of torque, the pill bottle lid is securely fastened to the bottle. If you were to exceed 160 ft/lbs of torque on the cap, you will break the threads on the cap or break the bottle. So we set operational range from 100-150 ft/lbs for the Pill Bottle.
