I didn't really know where to post this so I am here in this forum. If I need to post this in another forum, please let me know where to post and I'll quickly move it. So here is my issue. I am putting the drive train out of a 1987 mustang into a 1959 Edsel Villager. I have everything from the stang moved into the edsel so everything works as it should except the cruise control. When installing the drivetrain we moved engine, trans and all wiring from the donor to the edsel. All the buttons on the steering column work except the on button. I have verified that the other buttons on the column work as they should and give the correct voltages. I just don't get a signal from pressing the on button to the cruise amplifier. I did verify that the on switch is actually making. What am I missing so that this last part will work. Need some help if anyone has any ideas. Thanks in advance for any and all advice!!

Does your horn work?

Here's the wiring diagram for the cruise buttons. There are 3 wires. Most of the functions operate between one pair of wires. (LB/BK to BLK) The horn works through another pair (Yellow/LG to BLK). And the ON function is the only function that works through one pair. (Yellow/LB to Yellow/Green).

The horn should have 12V on it (Yellow/LG) which is how the CC gets it's 12V ON signal. So even if it has continuity to the wire, without 12V being there, the cruise wont actually turn on.

Yes our horn works but we using the edsel horn relay which which is wired for ground through the horn button. If we need to change the relay out and use one that we can power the horns and the cruise get 12v through that connection then we can do that easily. The diagram helps tremendously. Let me know your thoughts on this.
We will change the relay to a 12v switched relay and let you know what happens when we fix the relay issue. Thanks for your help and input. Will be back in touch soon.

I concur. you need to change your horn wiring to match.

Ok we have rewired the relay where we have 12 v working the horn a d when we press the on button we get 12v to the blue wire on the amplifier. But cruise still doesn't work. Is it a full 12v we should get when the on is pressed and also should you be able to feel the servo energize when we press the on button. Thank you for all and any help you can provide!!

Yes, the voltage is a full 12V because the horn also uses this power. When you hit ON, 12V gets sent to the light blue/blk wire on the speed control module (the yellow or black box).

According to this, you can't turn the system ON unless you are doing 30MPH, so that may be a gating item. But on my system, I don't beleive the servo energizes until you hit the SET button to set the speed, and that needs to be done at speed.

In the past, i've put the rear axle up on jackstands and got the car in 2nd or 3rd gear and then test the cruise system.

@Mustang5L5

When this thread is complete, would you tag it for the index. I have discovered that we have precious little on Fox Cruise Control and you've effectively produced all the applicable diagrams.

Or I can add it here???

Been meaning to update those wiring diagrams now that I have pdfs

Foxbody Mustang Cruise Control information, location, wiring diagrams

Done a little research into this and figured what I learned should be put into a thread and added to the tech sticky. As you can imagine, nobody really gives much thought to cruise control on these cars, so many searched threads had dead ends. So many this will help someone out down the road...

Also great for those of us who’ve retrofitted Fox and similar Ford drivetrains in our older Ford models.

The CC setup is, for the most part, standalone. However, there are still external inputs that need to be met. The cruise control still need a VSS input for speed (VR type sensor), and the brake light monitor wiring needs to be kept intact, or cleverly bypassed. See post #3 for a basic wiring diagram.
