1987 GT with T-Tops

How loud is that set up? I don't want something insanely loud, but I do love a nice growl while cruising and a nice angry roar when WOT. And a stock H pipe is all I need to pass? No cats?

My 91 LX is a great daily. Granted its unmolested and bone stock but its a great DD. BBBUTTT the gas mileage is the killer, I only get about 14 on a good day for some reason. It should do better but who knows.

Hey Jesse, if that 14 MPG is with a heavy right foot, you know how to fix that. But if that's calm driving and everything tuned up, change your O2 sensors. If they are bad it will hurt your mileage but not performance. You should easily be able to pull low 20's.

On a stock engine its a very nice sound, not too loud. I think you'll like it. Its not like SLP which is unbelievably loud and obnoxious. And with my 89, I had GT40's a small cam and a explorer intake and with a stock H I passed with flying colors. A stock engine with a stock h will never have a problem

Thats what I was thinking! I honestly baby the car with one or two small full throttles in first every now at then. It has 2.73's so I rarely beat it up. Ima change out the o2 sensors cause I'm going through two tanks a week.

I just installed a Dynomax Ultra Flow SS cat back on my 93. In my opinion it is not too loud but is a bit louder than stock. I still have the stock headers and 4 cat h-pipe on it. I also got a $75 mail in rebate.

Dynomax also just released their VT series mufflers that have a flapper inside. Their claim is that their is no drone at cruise but at full throttle they open up. You might want to check out their site.

A stock H pipe IS cats-its one heavy, awkward, restrictive mess, but it'll choke out whatever exhaust fumes you have coming out of the engine bay! Like the man said, hook one up for your inspection, then put it in the rafters for future reference and go back to the system you want.:nice:

That's why I dont want a new stang :( Tell me that's not sexy. Really though, what do you think?

Random thoughts....

"sexy", most certainly! Definitely would give most dudes a quick chubby.

Anybody that thinks 120K miles is getting tired, should take better care of their stuff. My 93 GT has 125k now and is as tight as anything Ford is making today! The 91 GT I sold 2 yrs ago had 175k on the original suspension, steering, and engine. All were in excellent condition and that engine was also very tight, no smoke no noise no leaks at all.

If the rest of that car is as nice as the pics, it is easily worth the asking price. I would have no problem getting $7k for that car if it were mine.

My 88 T-top hatch has those same mirrors.

The T-tops in my 88 do not leak for me, and did not leak for the previous owner, ever. Don't know before him though. Just sayin...

Not sure what some people consider "plush", but I've bought my mother two new Civics in the last 6 years and I would guess that this was the first time a Civic has been called plush. They're nothing more fabric covered tin cans. A good fox body would be a significantly more comfortable DD. And I'm definitely taller than 5'10".

Find a friend with a factory catted H-pipe and swap that in for inspection purposes. If you want something that will sound good, but not too loud, try some decent shorty headers, an X-pipe or MAC Pro-Chamber (both will be quieter than an H-pipe) and Flows or whatever brand of muffler you like. Or for a little quieter, like just a touch above stock, run a 2-1/2" H-pipe with cats, and Flows. Then you wouldn't need to change anything for inspection. Just don't buy anything that says SLP on it, unless you would like your car to sound like a used poop hole, through a 1000W amp.

I know you said you were not planning on modding, but consider adding subframe connectors. Best mod you can do to a fox body.

Saying an oil leak being normal would be a stretch. An oil leak would tell me the car has spent a lot of time sitting, or the car has been spanked on pretty hard for a while. I've never had a 302 that was properly maintained develope an oil leak. Ever! And I've had a lot of them.

I am lucky enough to have a handfull of DD's, and I do DD them all, and I do take them all on 400-1500 mile trips. We run 80-90k miles a year. I have no problem saying that the most comfortable car I own is the one out of these four that I'm not still making payments on.

I'm forgetting something....

Test drove it on friday and wow is all i can say. Car is in amazing shape. Now just waiting to make sure my car is sold before I take the plunge. So close!!!!

Yup, you're hooked now- even if the Honda is a faster car, it didn't make you smile like the 5.0 did it:D? Its important to remember that it is June, nice, sunny, 80's. That car is in as good a shape as it is cuz it wasn't on the street for January-frozen ice, snow and salt covered roads will absolutely tear up your investment. You will also learn a new kind of driving style with a nice slightly built GT under your foot and 2 to 4 inches of snow coming down with another 6 to 8 on the way- its called "white knuckled" down here south of Chicago:eek:. You will learn how to throttle steer and drift corners-and not the way your Honda does in those movies- second gear starts, long anticipation braking, how to creep roll an intersection cuz if you stop moving you're done moving, all great times!:rolleyes:You will need a winter car in Jersey.

I used to DD my 87 T-Top. But since it doesn't have AC....and its 100° outside...I bought something else to DD. Now the Stang can have the life it was meant to. Cool evening, top out, cruising.

What's the outlook on selling your car? I wouldn't try to wait too long to pick this stang up.

PM me some details on your Honda, I know someone that buys & sells a lot of them.

Hey Jesse, when you saw this car, did dude say anything about sub-frame connectors? Just wondering if it has any.

Also wondering what tranny is in it, either of you know?

I didn't really look under it that much but it was a decently clean car, didn't notice if there was subframes in it tho. Thats something I need to do on my car yet lol. I felt bad launching my car on slicks without them. lol
