S.F. Cal,
 first i got an1989 5.0 engine and car
Id like to know if anyone know s a good rebuilder in the S.F. bay area?
I,d like to know if anyone s gone to any machine shops around here and had their engines rebuilt?
Id, wonder for a stock rebuild costwise?
Any ideas would be good thanx?
Oh my engines amazingly still running good but using 1 qt of oil every 500 miles or so.

if your just going with the stock shortblock rebuilt its probably just cheaper to buy a frpp one brand new for like 1500 bucks. I wouldnt do it though. If its time for a rebuilt I would buy a dss shortblock 331 or 306

if you like working on cars i would suggest doing it yourself. its not hard and its a great learning expierence, and nothing beats the feeling that comes over your when you first start up the engine YOU built.

if your engine is still running good and just starting to burn oil, the internals are fine it may just be rings or the seals in the heads. you could do it all for cheap, get the machine work all it would hopefully need is a small bore increase, sometimes you can get away with a hone. also get cam bearings and coreplugs. measure the crank and order properly sized bearings accordingly. then upgrade the heads, intake and throw a nice performance cam in and you have a nice powerplant ready for racing.
