1990 mustang vs mazda miata

My old '03 BRP supercharged Miata was transformed from a 15.9 stock, to a 13.5@105 mph in the 1/4 mile with the A/A intercooled supercharger setup. The Miata was extremely fast to 125mph, after 125 it would start to struggle to 135mph. My Miata did not have NOS, I think he has the advantage.

I would not race him!

Edit:
Here are some pics of my old setup:

Is that a roots? I bet that will break 130 in a half mile!

Up the fuel pressure, spray 175 shot, put 4.10's and remove everything from inside the car. What ever you do figure you will need a hundred horse advantage to be the same speed unless you send your Stang to Jenny Craig:nonono:

Yes, that is a Magnuson MP62 roots supercharger and was making 9lbs. of boost. If I recall correctly, it probably would break 130 in a half mile race. My old Miata was a 6-spd car and the gearing was very short which hurt its top speed.

he is racing a half mile....he need s top end gear....not a 1/4 mile gear...

Yes and no. He needs to get to speed quickly. Since he does not have alot of power he needs to stay in the power band and that means 3.73 or 4.10. If it was a mile or two iwould say 3.27 but in any case he needs more than 2.93 or 3.08's. no?
He has a better chance hittin 130+ with 4.10's, if he has 245/45/ 17's and a stick at 130 mph he would be at 4750 in fifth. 3.73'S would put him at 6350 in fourth, and would not pull that well in fifth.

I wish I had that pic of a poster in a park to slap on here, so instead I'll just quote it:

"YOU GONNA GET RAPED."

Seriously, a Miata doesn't weigh jack to start with - something like 2,200 lbs. for the early models - and they made in the ballpark of around 120 hp (flywheel) on the older ones. Now, who knows if he's swapped in a motor from a newer Miata, which puts out something like 140 or 160 hp (can't remember off hand). Adding a supercharger with a mild PSI would add another, I dunno, 40 horses or so. Throwing nitrous on top of THAT, and ... well, basically it'll come down to the whole power-to-weight ratio thing, at that point. And as far as weight is concerned, your car is a lead sled by comparison.

Also, considering the fact that the dude is so sure of his ride that he'll race for pinkslips tells me he has a pretty good idea of what he's got working for him. They're kinda zippy little turds to start with, but mostly just through corners. Anyone who's driven one isn't silly enough to believe that they're ever FAST cars in stock form ... especially a '90 model. They're just fun to drive, that's all. Old farts and doctors LOVE 'em. Sure, there's a chance the other guy is completely delusional and has a little slug for a car, in which case hey ... a free Miata would be pretty damned nice to have. (Wanna trade for a Geo Metro, if you win? :D ) But chances are, he's got something decently built on his hands, and he's already got plans for what he's going to do with your 'Stang after he rapes you for it.

Go on. Race for pinks. I'll be entertained in either case.

FWIW, I would loooooooooove to have a Miata for a DD. Good MPG, manual top, easy to park, rear-wheel drive, 50/50 weight distribution, minimal options, reliable drivetrain... :nice:

I would be investing in a good sticky set of tires. I know its 1/2 mile racing but I would want to put every pony i had to the ground right from the launch. To bad you weren't driving my car when you said you could beat him. I doubt I would have issues getting over 120 mph in a 1/2 mile.

i can try to get a pic of the car i dont know if he will let me take a pic of the engine or not. and this is not bs,and im not going to switch cars on him. if i lose then i guess it will teach me a lesson and im not backing out im a man of my word this guy doesnt even know how much psi hes runing or how big of a shot of nos he has he paid someone to put the $h!t on his car. i might not have the fastest car but atleast im out there working on my OWN car and just not paying someone to do it for me
