Sorry that is just dumb. John Wooden couldnt take a bad basketball team and have them playing with UNC and Duke. You cant argue he is an average coach.

Even the good coaches have to have players to win. A good coach can maximize the talen they have to make the team better, that doesnt necessarily mean he can overcome a massive talent gap.

Thank you; finally a non-Patriots that's able to grasp the concept that no matter how good of players you have, you can't do a damn thing unless you've got a really good/great coach.

Belichick is known and forever will be known as one of the best coachs in NFL History. Yes w/ the Patriots he has had and still has some great players to work with but look at all the talent on some of these teams such as Washington who cant to crap, why do you think that is? Its how that talent is coached not just having it on tap.

Thats true but if the head office in washington like Cinci wouldn't have not worried at all about the D instead of saying we can win with Offence and nothing more, Whasington and Cinci is what ya get.

No thread lock casue the Pats are not going to win the SB either j/k

Let me go on record as saying that Bill Belichick is one of the best head coaches in the NFL and will someday be in Canton.

Of course he will go to Canton, he is a good coach and his team (Tom Brady) won three superbowls.

He is a good coach. Not a great one. He is very fortunate to have had the opportunity to ride on Tom Brady's coat tails, without him he wouldn't have any rings.

Most NFL fans will disagree with your assessment. Belichick is considered by most fans to be in the "great" class. Was he helped by Brady? Sure. Walsh was helped by Montana too.

I disagree. By you calling him "average" or "good" and excluding him from "great" it shows you have a general lack of NFL knowledge, even though you seriously believe your flawed opinion is accurate. It might pay off if you watched the Patriot games with another NFL fan.

What makes him great? All the numbers show is you take Tom Brady out of the equation and he is a sub .500 coach. You're right....he is a GREAT one!

Again, what has he done without Brady? Nothing noteworthy. Hell, in 5 years with the Browns he only had 1 winning season before they ran him out of town and his only season as a Patriot coach without resulted in a 5-11 record.

How about this...what do you feel he has done that another coach couldn't? Please cite specific examples.

After reading what bluffing and 5.0kid are saying, i think i'd have to reconsider and agree with them.

Without Brady according to statistics, he's an average coach. But i still think that he and his staff have done an outstanding job with what they had to work with this season

Don't forget Chuck Knoll being helped by Bradshaw. After all, those were all Bradshaw and the coach was nothing but a regular coach who rode the coat tails of a good QB.

How about 8-5 this year without a secondary or a QB who has had a start since '99 in high school! With a lot of rookies and 2nd year players.. a beat-up O-line and D-line.

Let's just say this... How good would Mike Tomlin or Bill Cowher be without Polumolu, willie parker and mewelde moore, roethlisberger, 2 of their best LB's, and rookies playing LB/DB. Let's see how well they'd do with all of those injuries at the same time.

About what I'd expect from an above average coach. This is the same team that went undefeated last year until just barely losing the Super Bowl.

Jury is still out on Mike Tomlin (and will be for quite awhile I suspect) but Cowher had a long history of success and he never had a top flight quarterback to carry him.

May I ask what makes him great? Wouldn't the statistics point otherwise?
