hey all, i was wondering whats the difference in cams between a 93 svt cobra cam and a regular 5.0 ho cam.

would it be worth it to buy one if i have to get new cam bearings as well, or would the gains be nil

It's terrible. It's the same came used in the 91-93 thunderbords with the 5.0HO

Don't waste your time with one

oh shoot, as thats what this cam is going in... but in a stang motor..

car is a 91 cougar xr7 aod trans with shift kit.
engine is rebuilt 20 over hyper pistons with valve reliefs, mac shorty headers, ported rebuilt e7's, gt40 intake and throttlebody, 1.72 rr's, new everything else bla bla bla the car weighs 3800lbs.

the cam i have now is stock ho stang, i had it polished and i have 10 over bearings i bought... so to use a new cam id have to get new bearings. i just want the car to be fun.

Seriously the cam won't be the one thing that makes it fun to drive, besides with the 1.72RRs you change the valvetrain specs anyway, kinda like getting a new cam.

did the thunderbords also have 1.72 rocker arms?

Lift is .444*/.444* - Advertised @ 266*/266* until August of '88, then it went to 276*/266* .

Duration at .050" varies and ranges from 204*+/204*+

Hyper pistons = lighter than forged, has better sealing properties than forged (less expandable), and will hold up fine under boost, until the block/rods crack or bend

everyone always tells me hyper pistons are really brittle and after a while will start to break under boost or higher compression. hence why they're cheaper.

yeah i have seen alot of people use nitrous and boost over the hypers and they do well. they werent running insane amounts of it, like 5 psi and a 100 shot. but they act fine. for a N/A motor with stock/low compression they work fine, they expand and fit snug in the cyl when it heats up better than a forged slug. i doubt there is a problem running 8 psi or a 150 shot on hypers, like stated above just keep a close eye on things and be on the safe side with timing and fuel and monitor detonation and keep it away. all of which you should be doing regardless of what piston your running.

a good tune will give you the fuel and spark YOUR engine wants/needs and will keep it running good, if the mods are extensive enough to where the stock EEC is having trouble giving the engine ideal fuel and spark for the application
