I am new to forums, so please excuse if I am in wrong place. I have a 1994 Mustang 3,8L V6. Runs great, shifts great! Problem is a very loud, almost jarring clunking noise, (1 or 2 clunks) when I am almost coming to a stop after going at least 45 mph. Sometimes makes 1 clunk when taking off from a stop, but never when accelerating after getting going. And, occasionally makes a lighter clunk, when you put it into drive or reverse. Thought it was U-joints. They were replace last year with a new yoke, as well. But, inspection under the car, the u-joints are sound, no play at all. Nothing else loose in undercarriage. The only play noted is between the yoke and the transmission. Not sure if any play there is normal, or if there is an acceptable amount. Afraid the problem lies in the transmission, which is making me bonkers, as the tranny is not acting up, at all, shifting perfectly and smooth. Any thoughts would be appreciated.:bang:
