I have a 94 SN95 Supercharged V-8 Mustang GT that I keep in the garage 98% of the time. I only get it out for car shows. Recently, I had to use it as my commuter car was in the shop for repairs. My question is, what is the lightest weight oil I can safely use in this so that it will start easier if I need it sometime this winter? I use M1 0W-20 for my Mazda 6i and currently use M1 10W-30 for my stang, but I'd like a thinner weight oil since this car sits a lot and perhaps a lighter weight oil will also get me a few more mpgs if, in fact, I need to use it once in a while. Oh, one more thing. Can I also use Lucas UCL with my premium gas in this beast? Due to having a custom ECC IV chip, I need to use premium gas. TIA,

What's your location btw?

Instead of using a 10w-xx, try using a 5w-xx or 0w-xx oil for winter. The 5w will pour/flow easier at cold temps, but once both types of oils reach operating temp, they will have similar flow properties. This could help with getting oil pumped around during "cold starts," especially with infrequent starting.

Or you could find a way to circulate the oil before you start the engine - priming it, but that's really overkill unless you are building up a new motor.

Any quality 5w-30 oil should suffice. No need for a 20 weight oil IMHO. And if you need a few more mpgs, switching from a 30 to a 20 weight oil alone isn't going to show any real significant savings.

You're better off minding the air filter/plugs/wires, maintaining proper (or slightly higher) air pressure in the tires, removing un-needed items from the passenger/trunk compartment for weight savings, and altering your driving habits.

Changing the way you drive may include: no jackrabbit starts, not flooring it and keeping heavy throttle application to a minimum, anticipating red lights/stops ahead, using cruise control on the freeway, driving much more conservatively, etc. Google "hypermiling" and you'll find a bunch of other ways to make a dent with your fuel economy. Just remember, it's a mustang, not a prius. :D

YMMV
