Just like the title says. The key wont come out. The switch moves fine and cranks the car. I have tried jiggling, moving the shifter, steering wheel , etc. Frustrated to say the least. It is a 1997, and has an automatic tranny.
Any suggestions?
Okay I'm a locksmith the first thing I'd do is squirt some tryflow or WD 40 in it and tap the key with a screw driver and wiggle it. It's most likely a stuck wafer not allowing the key to release. If that don't work take it out and take it to a locksmith Yours should be a poke and pull to get the ignition out turn the key to the on position on the underside of the column there is a small hole under the ignition stick an ice pick or some coat hanger in there and depress the button and pull and it will come out. good luck.
If this were my car I would be looking for a problem with the automatic shift interlock. IE the safety device that makes sure the shift lever is in park before the key can be removed.
