I have a 1997 v6 with a 1996 3.8 motor, eng wiring harness, ecm, dash wiring harness, cluster and column
Ive tried everything and searched everywhere Im not getting any spark from the coil pack the 96 car ran and drove before I did the swap into my 97 I've checked the crank posit in sense and the voltage varies, and I checked the red wiring going inot the coil and it has some power when crankING but it's under 1v,

I did the swap bc my 97 engines rings were bad and it had an auto trans.

^^THIS is almost certainly the cause of the lack of spark.

CONFIRM there is key on +12 volts in and out of I/P fuse #18. Use a known good ground. What to do next depends upon the test results.

To best answer you question it would be necessary to compare the wiring diagrams between the model years. If interested in getting a copy of the Ford wiring diagrams I maybe able to help. PM if interested.

I've removed the only other piece of 97 wiring my buddy swears this is the cause bc it's a 97 and the early 96 is apparently different according to him but I'll show you what I'm talking about hopefully these images work and will help

Upon my inspection the pins coming from the 96 engine harness don't match the pin positions on the 97 harness they will plug together but I maybe wonder if this is why the starter won't work with the key on and in start position and maybe why the coil won't fire?????
