Is this my clutch or something?

Lately once in a while I have a hard time getting it into 1st gear if the clutch is all the way to the floor if i let the clutch out slightly it goes right in, its not a big deal but i have to be concious of it otherwise i get people beeping behind me you know that drill.

sorry if its a dumb question Ive never been accused of being a mechanic

Is the clutch adjusted properly? Im not sure if u have a firewall adjuster and an aftermarket quadrant.

Could also be the synchros i think in the tranny. Do any of the other gears give you trouble?

I have had the car about 4 months and no problems. Besides the exhaust mods all were done be previous owner. I have never noticed this problem till recently and no other gears are doing it.

If letting the clutch out slightly helps, then I want to ask -- is this after you've held the clutch in for a while? Synchros require either input or output to be moving relative to the other side. Letting the clutch out a tiny bit would get some movement. When it's all totally stopped, sometimes the gear teeth will hit perfectly and resist going into gear.

Good thought Dave.

BTW, why don't you put it in first when you stop, rather than waiting for your turn to go?

syncro, gear, slider, could be any or all. the T5 that i just went through had a good syncro and slider, but a jacked up gear--it would pop out of 1st gear.

Yeah, it's controlled by the "Hurry Up Damn You" (HUDY) sensor, which directly measures how badly you need to get into gear. You can try to force it, but then the "How Broke Are You" (HBAY) sensor might trigger, which causes the tranny to asplode. If you replace your tranny fluid with blinker fluid, though, it shifts much smoother.
