I have had my new GT since Wed. afternoon and it's by far the best all around ponycar/sportscar/musclecar out of all I have owned. That list includes an '85 Monte Carlo SS(NEVER was very fast but had sex appeal)one '86 and one '87 12 sec. Grand National(for their time very plush interior, Ass kicking appearance and nosebleed acceleration with the comforts of your living room)A '91 Mustang GT and a '99 Z28 six spd( the SS style wheels and hood I put on it really made the appearance factor increase by 100%) and the '71 Buick GSX I still own which is at a 33 year disadvantage in the handling department. Most posts I have read regarding the quarter mile performance between the new GT and the LS1's have given the LS1 the edge. I agree but now by very much. My Z had CAI/tune/Cat-Back/synthetics. I sold the Z to my dad and I still drive it occasionally and I did a back to back comparison today These are MY OPINIONS so dont flame me and waste space on here because I am not changing my mind so here goes------------------------
Handling on normal roads within 23-30 mph of legal speeds--EVEN
Ease of shifting---GT
Styling---GT but I am biased because I LOVE the '69-70 Boss stangs and lets face it the '69 Camaro was the SEXIEST of all. The LS1 4th Gen are a distant 3rd.
Tightness of body---EVEN but my Z had SFC's and the GT doesn't and I don't think it will need them
Acceleration--- Z28... but like I said it is not stock and when I get my CAI and Xcal tune on the GT we are going to Beech Bend before winter and race. I am sure it will be within 2-3 tenths and 2-3 mph.
Fit and Finish----Buick GSX with the GT a close 2nd. This GT is by far the best I have seen on ANY new American car including the GTO's and Vettes at the local GM dealership.
These are my opinions and I am sure some won't agree so let the flames begin.
