I have been reading and was surprised that most of you really like the 4 banger. I have just recently acquired my 93 LX. At first I was thinking about converting to a 5.0. After reading about some of your rides I want to up grade my 2.3 engine instead. I would like to know what you people have done to make your stangs more fun. I have a totally stock 2.3 with no turbo and a five speed manual transmission to work with. What would you do with it is what I am asking.

Well, honestly you can't make the n/a 2.3L fast with bolt ons. You have to do a turbo swap to get any decent power.
However I would recommend putting some money into the suspension. One nice thing about the 2.3L is that they have less weight over the front wheels than a V8 car so they really handle nice. With springs, V8 swaybars, subframes and a strut tower brace you would be surprised how well it can handle, makes it a lot of fun to drive. My Mustang was pitifully slow next to my thunderbird, but I only wish my thunderbird felt as nimble as my mustang did. It's just too heavy for that though.

The 2.3 responds to modifications the same as any other engine, but being a small engine the results of the modifications won't be as great as with a bigger engine.
The biggest bang for the buck comes with the installation of a turbo engine if you don't want to go to the V8.
The 5.0 is a good choice, but there is some cost involved. Kits are available, and if you can find a donor car, that would be even better.
It all depends on what you are trying to achieve, how much money you want to spend, and your technical abilities.
