2 quick electrical questions (MSD 6al box, tfi coil)

Gotta couple questions after installing a 6al:

1.) how do I test if it's working? simply use a test light?

2.) want to make sure I'm not supposed to be using the magnetic pickup trigger. the white trigger wire plugs into the wire that connects the new tfi coil with the old harness, so I guess the trigger is all set.

get one of those tools thats like the male end of a spark plug and clips into the coil wire then grounds the other end and it has an adjustable screw to test spark at different distances, then turn the key and see if there is a spark to ground.

The magnetic pickup is not used on 5.0 Mustangs.
