I want to hook up a 2 step with my clutch pedal. I am familiar with the wiring diagrams.

Should the switch be located at the bottom of the pedal travel so that it releases "early" when the pedal starts coming up or should the switch be located at the top of the peddle travel so that it releases when the clutch is fully clamped up?

I suppose it would be best at the bottom of the clutch travel, especially if used in conjunction with my line loc.

When I had a 2 step in a manual car it was hooked to a switch I held in my hand. Are you also using it to control revs between shifts? You know, if you hook the switch to the clutch pedal it will be activated everytime you push in the clutch... there are a few ways around this tho. I don't see why you'd want to do this tho. Can you explain?

To answer your question tho (from a race persepective), I'd want the switch activated right AFTER the clutch is disengaged and powered off BEFORE the clutch is released. So it depends on your clutch engagement point.

Just looking for a little consistency on the line. Pop in a 3k chip and give it a rip. Move up the cutout rpm up or down accordingly to find the sweet spot. Allows me to concentrate more on the tree and clutch action without fumbling with another switch.

With a second switch properly installed the clutch switch will only be active when both are first set. Uses a relay as a latching circuit.

Aahhh... I see. I didn't like using the 2 step at the line myself; you're right too much to 'play' w/. I ended up using it in the box after a half dozen lower than expected 60' times. Like I said before it depends on the clutch engagement point. I liked mine at the top for faster engagement. Good luck!

I used the two step off the line, but had it tied to a delay box. Of course, there was also a A/C clutch magnet on the floor and a plate with a swivel socket welded to the pedal.
