Theres got to be ways around that man...

Being on call is part of the job right? People who become firemen know that they could die on the job or be called in when ever.

If i could get my own company started and start baniking...ill just paysome one to be on call all the time lol...and ill put for phone away while im on vacation :haha:

Starting your own company with network support isn't cheap. Especially if someone wants you to keep spares, diagnostics equipment, etc. Sure you could hire someone to be on call... after you've been runing the business for about 10 years...

MustangMan70 the key is doing something you like. If you don't have the interest, any job sucks. I've been in I.T. since the early 80's (before it was called I.T.) and it can be demanding but I enjoy it.

It all depends on the company, the position, the staff you have that works for you or with you and how well you maintain your network, servers, etc, on how much time it burns.

I still can't see the demand for knowledgeable I.T. people going away as the world continues to get more automated.

Good luck!

Ever think about starting your own networking company? That doesn’t sound too dead end to me
I have several friends that have tried this and a couple of them are very successful but it is really not a fun life they are on call all the time and because they support small companies that response is key.

I like computer type stuff. But I like my rear end hemorrhoid free. I cannot stand sitting in any one position for extended amounts of time.
That added to my ADD and me being a chronic procrastinator. I would not do very well.

So unless it involves fire, loud noises, blood, guts, puke, and gobs of adrenaline. Then its not for me.

So I became a fireman/paramedic.

If you're the GBM, computer type stuff DOES "involve fire, loud noises, blood, guts, puke, and gobs of adrenaline.":D
