i can get a 2000 explorer intake for 100 bucks upper and lower from a buddy, if i am not mistaken it does not have an internal egr system. can this intake still work if i want to keep egr on my car?

The late moel explorer intakes aren't compatible with the fox egr system. you would either have to remove the egr or go to the external egr system like the 94-95 cars.

You'll need SN95 specific headers for one. I've never heard of anyone converting a Fox to SN95 external EGR though.

Are you certain emmissions will come? I'd just install the intake and worry about it later. Just keep your stock intake

Usually when they go retroactive with emissions they don't actually test the car on the rollers. They either just do a visual or a simple tailpipe test. Just put the EGR back onto the Explorer intake and hook it up. All of the emissions equipment is on this car but none of it is functional.

will the car still run ok with the egr not working? it runs good now i just dont want to mess anything up. so what your saying is put the egr spacer on even though the holes for the egr are non existant in the intake? my buddy just texted me and said 50 $ hes tired of looking at it.

Car will run fine without the EGR functional.

There are Fox style mustangs driving right now without the EGR functional, and the owners dont even know it.

Once the ECM logs a EGR failure code, it shuts off the EGR function anyways. So there is no closing or opening of the EGR valve.

Yes it may set a code but is not nessasary. Once the computer detects it doesn't work, it no longer compensates. I kept the system on in my old car but blocked it at the intake to cylinder head to keep hot gasses from entering the intake and heating it up. Then I disconnected the coolant lines that go to the EGR plate, this all made a difference in how hot the intake got. Power difference? Don't know but it couldn't have hurt keeping the intake cooler. Every little bit helps.
