2000 GT engine rattle, clip inside

My friends 2000 GT (81k miles, few basic bolt-ons) has started making a bad rattling noise and its getting worse. It started out sounding like a bad idler pulley, so we changed that but no help. We took the belt off completely and started it and it still made the noise, so its none of the accessories. Listen to the clip at the 48 second mark and you can hear it best, but its more discernable in person.

That's scary cause my 2000 GT just hit the big 100,000 mile mark and I dont have money for major engine work!

Sounds like a few 2000's have this problem. Great...

Ive got some small "rotational" noise on mine, but it doesnt really sound like a knock or tick... coming from the right side of the engine up front from what I can tell.

I just rolled over 100k aswell last week.

well the reason i say it might be somewhere in the valvetrain is because mine does it but for like 1min or so then it goes away

Sounds like a finger follower to me. Hard to tell with the video though.

Why did the engine bog like that? Is that just how it's running when it idles?? There is plenty of oil too I assume?

Oh, this is way late, but the problem here was the timing chain tensioner had seized up and the chain was literally eating through the guide. I think the repair bill was around $600. Seems to have suffered no other problems though, car went 13.0x after the repair (4.30s, CAI, exhaust, drag radials).

Well its good that it didnt turn out to be that bad of a problem afterall. 13.0 is killer for just those mods.

Now that I hear the noise from the vid it makes perfect sense lol. Coming right from the front of the engine when the timing chain cover is.
