2000 T45 trans in a 97, speedo issues

A buddy of mine has a 97 Cobra. Lost 3rd gear and got another T45 out of a 2000 GT. Now he says his speedometer reads like triple the speed hes actually going. From what info i could gather, the 97 has a gear driven speed sensor and in 2000 they went to a magnetic pick-up. I would think the speedo wouldnt even work in that case. Am i correct in that this is what ford did with their speedo sensors?

Tell your buddy to look at an extended range SpeedCal. It can convert the newer OSS signal to a VSS signal that the 96-98 MY Mustangs need.

Thanks! Did a lot of searching and could only find a recalibrator box. This is exactly what he needs
