2000 V6 A/C Vent Controls INOP

Hello I have a 2000 v6 mustang and recently the ac started only blowing through the defroster no matter the setting. I drove it like that for awhile because it still kept the car cool and I figured it was just a vacuum line but now this terrible grinding noise comes from the front of the car if I try to engage the defrosters or ac, it only stops when I turn it off completely. Please help!

Does the noise come from the engine bay or from under the dash?

Does the noise only happen when the AC is on?

Is the noise coming from the AC compressor?

The front passenger Side of the engine bay and yes only when the ac or defroster is in, it will immediately stop when I turn them off.

So you have to consider the likely hood that the AC compressor is locked up.
