2001 Mustang Gt Top Wont Go Down

I have a 2001 GT Convertible and the top one wont go down. When I put on the hand brake the light doesn't come on so perhaps that might be the issue. It has a weird aftermarket handbrake. When I push the button for the Top I doesn't make any noise. Is there a way I can bypass from having the hand brake on to put the top down to see if that is the problem?

I have read that the brake light must come on for the top to work. And I did read a thread somewhere that there is a way to by pass the emergency brake light. It has been a while.
