2002 V6 Headlight Conundrum

My stepson's 02 has headlight gremlins. In November of 2018, both low beam headlights went out at the same time. We found the burned out bulbs fairly easily and replaced them. Two weeks ago, he called and told me the low beams were out again. However when he got out to the house, it was his high beams that had quit working. The fuse had blown. We spent several hours testing wires and checking the multifunction switch. We finally gave up because it got dark and put everything back together. He went to drive home and poof there went the low beam on the passenger side. A quick check showed the fuse for that had popped. We spent several more hours looking for shorts today, pulled the look for the multifunction switch and checked it closely, swapped a new multifunction in just because we're running out of ideas, and now I am here hoping someone has an idea that can help.
