Why not get a 99-01 cobra instead? Buying a V6 then dumping all the money to make it look like a cobra is more expenssive, plus its pathetic!

Coming from a former V6 owner, just have fun with the V6 and when you can afford and are able to buy a V8 then just step up then. I don't understand if you can't afford a cobra, how are you going to afford a proper swap? Remember it's not only the Engine you will need to replace but many more parts that must be upgraded to handle the extra power like the drivetrain, rear end, exhaust, computer, wheels/tires and wise to get some better brakes. If you can afford all this, I don't know what you can't afford a Cobra.

So let me get this straight you'd rather have a smashed cobra instead of cobra thats been driven like it was designed to do thats like brand new for a awsome price05drive said:

I personally prefer used cars that was semi raced versus a car that was not. Someone who was into racing is usually concerned with their car more so. More fluid checks, oil changes, & insuring it's in top shape so it is faster on the track or street.

If you can't afford a cobra, you can't afford insurance. What the hell do you want a cobra for? Just stick with the sixer untill you have enough for both. Owning a mustang is not cheap! (well if your going to mod it)

Here is another angle regarding a swap or mod of the kind that you are inquiring about: If you were to convert your V6 car over to a 4 valve modular engine with all of the supporting hardware to do so, then you would not be doing it because you wanted to build a Cobra clone per se but because you wanted to do a modular engine swap. In other words, your wording should be: I want to do a modular engine swap, what is required?
Can I assume that you do not have a car yet? If that is the case then I would recommend doing the following: Buy yourself a '94-'98 V6 Mustang for cheap...~$3500. Buy a used Mach 1 motor from KarKraft for around $2500 reserving another $2000 for supporting hardware (ECU, intake plumbing, hydroboost brake booster, 8.8" rear end, tranny, driveshaft, exhaust, descent brakes and cool rims....there's more but that's a good start). I modular k-member may only be necessary for a '94-'95 car. Beyond that, the stock k-member will work fine. You could probably do the whole thing for around $8000, assuming you don't break anything!
Plan on having the car in your garage for 3 months. You'll also need and engine stand, hoist, welder (there is sime fabrication involved...) and a CDROM from Ford for the electrical systems for both the chassis and swap motor. Did I mention pinout charts and a good multimeter?
You know, if you really wanted a sleeper that was super cheap to insure, swap a modular motor into a 4 cylinder Fox chassis!
Hey, I understand it is a lot of work (read my sig, and I am still dealing with bugs) but is VERY rewarding and a great learning experience. You would also have a unique car (Mach 1 motors, as an example, ROCK!) that YOU created and it would be cheap to insure. I pay around $55 per month for insurance!

Why do you want a cobra that bad? Why not get an older GT or something? I understand about the insurance though, but something about insuring a 4cyl or 6cyl car that has a big beefy V8 in it now kinda worries me. Then again it might be perfectly fine, but insurance fraud is not something I'd want to get into. Do whatever makes you happy. I would have liked to keep the 98 and rebuilt it with a 351 or something, but wasn't able to keep it.
