im thinking about getting mustang from a 2005-2010. i was talking to this 1 guy and he said the 2005-2006 has a better motor because it has better rods and it will take more hp. he said the rods on the 2007-2010 is weak and about 500 hp is the max that they will take. he said the 2005-2006 will take about 600 hp to the tires safe and the 2007-2010 has about 500 hp at the crank max. any1 know if that is true

Never heard that before. Outside of some minor changes I thought the motors were all the same. But WTF do I know? LOL

They are exactly the same outside of some minor changes in valve cover gasket and spark plugs

That's correct ^ The later engines have a better design for the plugs. One piece that won't break when removing them. The older design is fine as long as you pull and apply silver anti seize periodically.

ford is good about making things better. i did not think they would put a weak rod in the motor so they would have problems.

Fact is, the rods are the weakest link. If you decide to boost the engine, make sure you get a true pro to tune it and stay at or under 10 lbs boost if you want any kind of longevity, even then, there's no guarantee.

I happen to work for FOMOCO....That's not true about the rods. Yes... Ford did improve the plug design on the later models.

For the 3V the later the better. In addition to the improvements with the head/spark plug design (on the later 08s thru 10s) all engines 07 and newer take advantage of a better ECU, and a better and simpler cooling system which uses less complicated plumbing. Also the chassis is stiffer, and features a lower a arm tie bar from the factory which the first versions don't have.

guess the rods are weak. my friend sent 1 out of the block. his car was making 509 to the wheels. he was making 15 boost of boost.

With a safe tune, and reasonable redline, the stock engines can hold up to a lot. Personally, I don't plan on exceeding about 450 rwhp ever with my '07 GT, as that's starting to push it, IMO.

I don't care who you work for, the rods are weak for forced induction. They are the weakest link, but in your defense, they are just fine for N/A applications. This has been established for over 5 years. Where have you been? Forged, compressed powdered metal and thin as a toothbrush.

I think Zora was replying to the OP Anthony and not to some of the replies. He was referring to the fact that the rods are not stronger on certain years than others...

Thats what I love about forums...someone always jumps the gun. I was refering to the topic not your answer.....yes they are the weak link...but 3V rods are all the same. Geez
