Hi everyone,

My new 2005 GT is on the assembly line as we speak and should be here by the end of the month. I am struggling with trying to decide if I want to have stainless steel hood pins added to the car. Does anyone have suggestions? Would it look too ghetto??

Thanks,
Shannon

PS - I currently own a 2004 GT without hood pins, but thought they might look cool on the 2005. Thoughts??

I personally like the hood pins. I prefer the twist caps that were on the Mach 1's. If I can find some in black I'll be buying a pair. Chrome doesn't look to good on the satin silver paint.

I think they were originally designed for racing, to keep the hood from blowing off the car in case the stock latch failed (or if there wasn't a stock latch).

I think they are a good idea...especially since a lot of people have been complaining that the hood shakes at high speeds...scary if you ask me..

I obviously don't drive an 05, but my hood shakes like crazy at high speeds; it's been that way since i replaced it (long story), but the hood is fully latched. I suppose pins in the hood would look good, but I they aren't necessary on a stock *fully latched hood.. would make a lot more sense on an aftermarket fiberglass hood :nice:

Yes they were(and are) used to secure the hoods on race cars. As well street cars like the 1964 Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt and the 1965/66 Shelby GT350 Mustang that came from the factory with fiberglass hoods and no latch assemblies.
They serve no purpose beyond apppearence on a car with a latched hood, but like you said"you should make your car YOURS."

Dave,
i really like those. question: torsion pins or hairpin pins? does it really make a difference other than liking the look of one vs. the other?

Nope! It's just the look of the pins you like. The main pin is still the same. I just like the looks of mine, that stand-up and I didn't want to go with cables. You can get the hairpins that lay of their sides from another make too. There are even ones that side in then take a 'u' shape clip too. But, those don't look as good. I wanted more of the classic hood pins.
:nice:
