I own a 2005 gt which is currently my only car but I've never driven it. I live in maryland and have to drive up and down route 70 to get to and from work which when it snows can get a little slushy or icy at parts. Is it necessary to get Winter tires or do I just need to drive gently also the speed limit is 70 do I need to go slower than that.

IMO (as no expert), the 'safe' answer is yes, get dedicated winter tires.

But other things come to mind, how flat is the section of the highway you'll be driving. If its all flat, maybe you could get away with just being gentle on the throttle and brakes. I'd be more worried about stopping with normal tires than spinning them getting on the throttle. You can at least control the spin somewhat, hard to control a car that won't stop though.

As somebody born and raised on the east coast, pony cars are not your first choice in snow. Now I have slid and skid and gone sideways on ice a few times.
A winter beater car is best, at least till you have mastered the uncontrollable slid without ting your pants.
