At approx. 10:30 a.m. on Monday my wife saw a new white Mustang 2005 GT. with chrome bullet wheels on the side of the road giving some rice a ticket. The Mustang had markings on the door, Marion county she said, but no blue and reds on top, hidden inside the car. :fuss: Spotted on hwy 99 towards Hubbard.

Lucky cop.

:rlaugh: I was thinking the same thing...

I haven't seen or heard of a Mustang cop car in some time, let alone a 2005.

They can turn any car into a cop car, doesn't have to be an option from the factory. Out here in Clackamas county the Sheriff has a green two door Monte Carlo or Lumina undercover traffic unit I saw writing a ticket one day.

As an ex cop, I hate undercover traffic units, their sole purpose is to raise revenue and that is not what cops are for IMHO... :flag:

Of course.

Well, some people might say at least part of their purpose is to promote public safety by enforcing traffic laws. More effective as such, because (of course) people tend to follow the rules when a marked unit is around. BTW, the state of WA gets all but a small percentage of the take from traffic infractions. So, little incentive for municipal/county agencies to get into unmarked units for the revenue-gathering potential. As for the State Patrol, however... ;)

I'm just glad that even unmarked WSP cars tend to be bigger, plain-looking sedans and SUVs. :)

i really don't think unmarked cars are there to promote safety.

when a car pulls over someone, EVERYONE slows down to gawk up on what's going on. that is in no way helping with the safety or flow of traffic

furthermore cops in undercover cars tend to instigate some of the behavior. they hog the left lane. they tailgate. they even speed up to pace you on the side. and i know that it is illegal for a police officer to instigate behavior like that and yet undercover cops do it all the time.

i know this from personal experience not from the cop's records.

If the states wanted to slow people down then they would park MARKED cars all over the freeways. They wouldnt have to be manned, just the cars would slow people down and the state could pay a couple of people to move them around all day long and people would slow down because they wouldnt be sure if it was empty or manned. But the state wouldnt make money. Unmarked cars are there for one reason, MONEY.Anyone that lives in the Eugene area knows about Coburg cops giving tickets on I5 Its all about the money, pays for most of the city in coburg

This is something that was brought up last year. At least here in WA they are taking any car they can and installing lights/computer to regular vehicles as traffic inforcement cars. I heard they were even using seizure rigs as they are free to the state.. We had a lifted tinted, chromed Suburban here in Tacoma.. also seen volvo's. Caddy's etc...

Basic idea is don't fug around on the streets, do it at the track...

second that lamrith, seen that same volvo before... well down here towards graham & bethel staters have an unmarked tinted white z28. was gonna rev on him once till rolledup saw plates "WSP" while back saw a discover special once about service vehicles. untrue about "ANY" car, they still have to pass gov/state issued safety test to meet their dept requirements. do ya think they'd come out with a ricer TypeR or Si unmarked... if they do i'm gonna be fked! :bang: :bang: eating rice gives me gas :rlaugh:

In Vancover,Wa. they have a WRX just for the street racers. I've all so seen a small Toyota 4 door pull over a car in a school zone. They all so have a Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Statuse, and several other totaly unmarked cars in the garage.

Last year on my way home this tard in an integra was messing with me from about smokey point to arlington on I5. I was driving my 4 banger car and figured I would just leave him real quick to show him a little somethin. After I did this I just kinda coasted back down to the speed limit kinda slowly only seeing a motorhome and a new marauder in front of me.
Turns out the marauder was a state patrol and by the time I saw the WSP on the plate Im sure he noticed I caught up to him kinda fast. So I got up next to him and tried to look interested in the car. I gave him a thumbs up trying to play it off. He looked at me with a bit of a glare but smiled when I gave the thumbs up.
I was sure he had me. Lucky.
