If the states wanted to slow people down then they would park MARKED cars all over the freeways. They wouldnt have to be manned, just the cars would slow people down and the state could pay a couple of people to move them around all day long and people would slow down because they wouldnt be sure if it was empty or manned. But the state wouldnt make money. Unmarked cars are there for one reason, MONEY.Anyone that lives in the Eugene area knows about Coburg cops giving tickets on I5 Its all about the money, pays for most of the city in coburg

They do that out here on Hwy 3 from Bremerton - Poulsbo. Sometimes I see decoy cars set up, lights flashing and everything.

I wonder if anyone's ever stopped jump in..

Whats the story with superchargered patrol cars I've heard about? Crown Vics or Marauders?

Marion County has had an '03 or '04 GT for a while but I haven't seen the '05 yet. I don't mind the unmarks, I like that they're catching the idiot drivers. It's not unmarked units I see hogging the left lane, it's idiots with h.u.a. syndrome. I sure miss the 'ol caprice with the LS1 though, that was a screamer.

I think he meant LT1... 1994-1996, not fast but compared to the Crown Vics of the day they were the cop car of choice. Unless, you had a 5.0 of course...

Seems like every time I go to or from the track, I see someone pulled over. The cops out there must LOVE drag racing season. The spectators are making them a lot of money just in ticket revenue I'm sure.

I saw the 05 Maeion county mustang last week. Makes a good looking cop car. Wonder if Ford will offer a severe duty version for police use like it did in the 80s 5.0. Would be neet to see.

A police duty package would require heavy duty brakes and cooling for the engine and automatic transmission. They might add some performance shocks and struts but would probably leave the power alone. Also, you'd need heavy duty alternator and battery for the electrical needs of radio, computer, light, siren, etc... Ford would also have to figure out where to mount the pushbars on the front for everyones favorite P.I.T. maneuver and how it would affect airbag deployment. Thats the deal with police packages, these cars have to idle for hours then maybe get in a pursuit and run at 100+ with a lot of braking for up to an hour or so in a worst case scenario. There are few cars that have the brakes and cooling capacity to endure such harsh conditions. Not to mention my favorite parking spot was on the sidewalks of Portland... Not great for the suspension...

A Traffic/Decoy car is one thing, a pursuit vehicle is another...

At approx. 10:30 a.m. on Monday my wife saw a new white Mustang 2005 GT. with chrome bullet wheels on the side of the road giving some rice a ticket. The Mustang had markings on the door, Marion county she said, but no blue and reds on top, hidden inside the car. Spotted on hwy 99 towards Hubbard.

Lucky cop.

...and full size dodge trucks, dodge intrepids, chevy suburbans, ford expeditions, crown vics, mercuery marauders, etc.... Some of them even have a bumpersticker or two, and they almost all have tinted windows (dont you wish we could have black outs and be legal).

It's getting to the point where ya can't tell whats a cop and what's not.

But like this morning on my way home, when the minicooper and the toyota were playing grab-ass down padden pkwy at about 70, they are never around when you need em.

Safety? There's nothing about safety in what they do, doing 70 in 55 is not "unsafe" but a ticket for 15 over sure makes some nice revenue. Its not the speed that causes accidents its the stupid laws that let you get a drivers license without having to go to a driving school. Its the asian lady at the DMV that can hardly speak engrish that is giving you the driving test! 16 year olds that get tought how to drive by their nice soccer mom are never going to have the proper driving instruction as an 18 year old that goes to driving school for 3 months in europe! Look at germany for example, most of the german highway has no speed limit, meanwhile germany has less accidents per capita than the US does. What does that tell you?

Good thinking but not original, they do that in europe already.
