2008 Model Build-Off

I would have finished but ran out of super glue. I also had to rip the k member off like five times since, it looked like 4x4 and I had to modify it so it would look like it was lowered. Also the roof is sprayed evenly it just looks off because of the light

Man, I have lots of models, I love to go to the shows, buy the old AMT nascar kits someone built like chit and restore them. Trouble is, I have no computer skills/equipment! No way to photograph or post them- maybe I'll ask my 10 year old to help, he eats up this stuff! Old dog.....

Wow i love GT350s...is that a decent model?

I have this problem doing models where once i finish the engine and drivetrain i start to get bored...that's about where i'm at.

I usually get bored after a while too. If I spray something on the tree, it has to be touched up once it's removed. If it's painted off the tree, you have to finish the part where you held it. Cleaning the brushes is really the part that I don't like.

That's why you need a little pair of medical locking tweezers. We called them penningtons in the body piercing world. This way you can clip them on to the smallest part of a piece, like the part that's gonna be glued where you're not going to paint anyways, and then let it dry while on the clip. You might be able to use some small alligator clips but i don't know about the sharp teeth digging into the plastic.

What i hate is how you never really finish with one color. I bet i open a bottle of silver 50 times durring a model build.

I just finished my interior. If you're doing the '93 Cobra there really isn't much to it. I've got my bumper glued on and i'm gonna start smoothing off the body and prep for paint. I'm probably 80% done.

Hey guys i've got a bit of a road block. Since my mishap with the spray can, i've started to set sand my body but i just don't like how it's turning out so i wanna strip the paint completely off. I've searched but i'm finding hit and miss results on what will strip the paint off without damaging the plastics. I've seen everything from brake fluid to Easy Off oven cleaner....does anyone know a cheap and easy way to get paint off?

If it's gonna cost me $12 to strip the paint off i'll just buy another kit for the body and have a box of spare parts.

EDIT:

Ok i found an excellent page on this subject. It appears that a product made by Castrol sold at any auto parts store is about the best you can get for about $5 a gallon. It's called Super Clean (i read somewhere that it was called Castrol Super Clean but is now called just Super Clean). You submerse your parts in it for a few hours and bingo you've got a perfectly clean part with no paint. There are other products but according to this guy this one takes the cake.

Sand it up rough and put it some brake fluid...I am doing the samething right now so don't feel bad.

EDIT- after reading the link I am thinking you might be on to something with the the Super clean, the brake fluid works but not that fast.

I scored some really badass wheels off another model yesterday so i'm pretty anxious to get the body painted. I went to a hobby shop yesterday and they had pretty much all the Fox models i've seen...they had the '82 GT which i have and unfortunately it's not so good of a model, they had the '87 GT which is a huge POS even worse than the '82. The nose on that one is slanted way too much and the lights are decals. They had the lowrider GT which i might eventually get and ditch all the lowrider pieces and make it a proper GT vert. They had the '93 Cobra, the Super Stallion, a '98 Cobra which i almost got except the rims were totally wrong, a few different year classis, a bunch of '05s and even an old '70s style alcohol Mustang II which i was really tempted to get and i might go back for.

Oh i bought a '69 GT500, i believe the same one that 5.0 Nostalgia is doing but that's for a later build. I'm sticking with the '93 Cobra that i'm working on. Today i'm gonna try to find some of that Super Clean and strip my body down and respray it, then it's a matter of getting the wheels on the chassis since they don't really stay on like they're supposed to. After that it's just some finishing touches and putting it all together.

I've got some progress pics but i don't wanna give anyone any ideas just yet :D
