can i use the 200amp alt. that came off the pi motor i got out of a cop car. i still have the stock ignition and wiring. but i do have an after market amp and speakers. i just wanted to know if it woould be benificial with the amp and stuff.

I doubt the alternator is 200 amp. At best it's probably in the 130 amp range because of additional electrical load placed on the system, with most standard alternators being in the 95 amp range. In any case go ahead and use it.

I would however upgrade your main power feed wire with something a fair bit heavier.

well it came with the engine i bought ou of a 2005 interceptor sheriffs car that im putting in my 97gt, i have a big audiobahn amp pushing 2 10" subs, i figured it will aid better in keeping the charging system at its best. every now and then ive noticed my headlights will dimm if i have a hard hittng song on, ive installed a cap along with heavier gauge main supply wire to the amp, and it doesnt do it as often as when i first put it in a couple months ago.

I could be mistaken....but to my knowledge, Ford has never put a 200amp on any factory Ford...even the cruisers? I was under the impression 130amp was as big as they got for cars with heavy electrical demands.

Again, I could be mistaken?

In any case, like I said, you'll want to upgrade the power wire and install a high amperage fuse. I would imagine something in the 200amp range.
