245/45/17 on a 9inch rim?

I need a good all season tire (some light snow driving) on my 17x9 rims.

I have used and really like the BF. Goodrich Traction T/A's. But the largest they come in 17 is 245/45.

Will these look ok all the way around? I actually prefer a wider sidewall (old school guy), so if these will work without trouble, I will probably use them.

The diameter is the same between 275/40 and 245/45.

BFG KDW 2's...awesome tread pattern...or Yokohama AVE ES100's (have these on the front, BFG drags on the rear)

BFG KDW 2's = snow traction, Not Acceptible per tire rack.

Yoko AVE ES100's = snow traction, Not Acceptible per tire rack.

The 245's on a 9" rim will have slightly bowed out sidewalls right at the rim edge. I didn't like the way it looked.

Your right. I have seen some pics of this combo and didn't like it. I am leaning now towards the Avon Tech M550 A-S tires. Seem to be pretty good (overall conclusion) at Tirerack and are available in the original 275/40 size.

those will look pretty narrow on a 9" rim, and you won't have any rim protection. my t1's work pretty good in light snow. a 265 is what is recommended atleast on a 18x9" wheel.

You might consider picking up a used set of 17x8" 94-04 GT/94-01 Cobra wheels & putting the 245/45's on those. The 245/45's will physically fit on a 9", though I would use them for snow only. For year-round use, I'd look for an all-season 275/40 like the Avon you mentioned, or the KDWS as MO guy noted. To me, your best bet is a dedicated set of wheels & tires for inclement weather, so you don't have to sacrifice your dry-weather fun.

I had the BFG KDWS's in the 245/45 on the OEM 17x8 rims and didn't like the way they tracked the grooves in the road. When they wore out I ended up putting BFG Gforce Sport 275/40's all the way around on new 03 Cobra 17x9 rims and it really looks good and handles great.

I have considered this and is a good idea. I really love the traction T/A's in the winter here on my Mustang.

The summer tires would have to be able to handle rain though as this would be my driver in the rain (bike otherwise).

I've got Falken Ziex P245 on 9-inch Cobra R's and they look fine. You just have to be extra careful to prevent curb rash.

The t1's are still a good choice, unles you can cough up some GSD3's. I have had no problems on wet pavement, with mine. they spin just as easy on dry cold pavement as they do wet. the yoko's were my other choice on a budget.
