25 mpg on my 5.0? wow?!?!

I try to check my mileage every time I fill up, but I have to have enough money to top it off two times in a row. With the stock engine and basic mods I averaged 21mpg and change with a best-ever 24mpg. With the new engine and now that it is officially broken in, I average 19-20, with a best of 21. Those may sound low for some who only does about 15% city driving, but I do alot of canyon/mountain with alot of grades and low speed twisties.

I top my gas off every week. Gas is relatively cheap in England (on base) so I don't spend but around 25 dollars for a full tank. I pulled out the calc a couple of times I gor 14.7 mpg. That's with 3.73's and punchin occasionally when I see a WRX :). I have had a best of 20.2 mpg's, and my CEL light is still on. :(

damn..I've been getting like 12mpg.. :notnice: but I didn notice I was running kinda rich when I pulled my plugs & I had a busted O2 sensor which I replaced along with new plugs, so we'll see..not expecting 25mpg though :p

Is there anyone on the forum that checks gas mileage by actually topping up the tank, and dividing the number off the pump into their mileage? :)

Just did 127 miles on an around town tank - on 6.10 gallons. I'll let you guys do the math.QUOTE]

Michael, those numbers mean nothing in here. can you please tell us what bar your gas gauge was on when you filled up; we will extrapolate from there. LOL J/K (i feel the same way. i hate that....i would like to see someone do that with a bike. a long walk would be the outcome).

Hissin 5.0 I am respectfully stating to you and the rest of the group here that where your gas gague is has nothing to do with how you measure your gas mileage. Heck, mine sticks for the first 75 miles and goes down uhhh....rapidly from there. You simply don't allow it to go past "E" before you fill up. If you have a trip odometer, fill up your tank, set it at "0" and drive until you fill up again (hopefully before you get past "E"). Divide total mileage by gallons, and there you have the number.

how big is the foxbody tank? is it 10 or 15?

the first time i was driving it i only got 100 miles out of a tank of gas.
2nd time i needed gas i got abou 130 miles
3rd time i was getting about 150
the one time i came very close to around 200 miles
but the last tank i got some very poor mileage...

of course the first time i needed to fill up, i was really putting the car through its paces cuz i just got her :nice:

i figure about 160 miles out of a tank of gas for me.... i also have 3.55's

The size of the tank on a fox body apparently varies in an inversely proportional relationship to the kind of gas mileage you'd like to get. If you want to say you're getting better mileage, simply divide by the 10 gal. estimate; if you want to say you're getting worse mileage, then divide by the 15 gal. estimate. :)

so what is the Technical Amount that the Fox Holds?

I get about 5mpg, 10 if im lucky and dont get on it at all. Theres times when I can actually watch the gauge just fall... but thats only when im givin it hell, puttin my big ass foot to the floor, and there just so happens to be a "go fast" pedal between my foot and the floor board ;)

ahh, before you throw a party, you might want to fill it up. the gas gauges are not known for their precision...not trying to rain on your parade, but you might want to check it when you fill up
Thanks guys, for splainin' the correct way to figure mileage. One or two people may have been confused without your help. Some things go without saying, or, at least, they should.

COOL, then I've been doin' it right for...uhh, let me count...just a second...over 23 years.

Lighten up!

Mike, thanks for knowing me and my facetious side. your take on how my body parts are embedded was a new one; normally people say i have my head firmly embedded in my............:D

What?! How are all of you guys getting this mileage??! I have a '94 GT with only exhaust work and on a 15.2 gal tank, i'm getting about 185 miles city and about 230 highway. That only works out to 12.2mpg and 15.1mpg. What's wrong with my car?!

you can pull codes, check ECT, ACT, lambda values, etc, but a lot of it has to do with how big your gas foot is.
