25 mpg on my 5.0? wow?!?!

Thanks for setting me straight Mike, and sorry Hissin5.0. BTW my wife tells me I've become much more confrontational lately. She said I'd better settle down, or her something or other will be firmly implanted in my cheek...it wasn't a tongue I don't think. LOL
Peace

Is there anyone on the forum that checks gas mileage by actually topping up the tank, and dividing the number off the pump into their mileage? :)

You can't get mileage figures with anything close to accurate results by guessing how much fuel you've used based on the drop of the fuel gauge. It, like the temp gauge and the tach, is inaccurate, and usually biased towards the top half. On the other hand, 25 mpg is definitely doable even with mods. Mine pulls that number down on the highway regularly. Just did 127 miles on an around town tank - on 6.10 gallons. I'll let you guys do the math. I believe mine is getting mileage with the 5.0 than it did with the 4 banger.

That's the only way I do check gas mileage, I don't look at my guage and take a stab in the dark, it was exactly 28.00 and some change of course.

On a road trip back in 1995 I got 26.2 mpg. That's the best I've ever seen and that was at a steady 70 mph on cruise in 90 deg weather. I can still get about 24 but that's pushing it. With 2.73's I thought I'd get a bit more, and it just didn't happen. Maybe when I get finished with my mods, I'll see a small imporvement. I don't count on it though.

I have the 3.08 rear and my best ever was 27 mpg on a section of a 1000 mile road trip. I did the math based on the pump figures. The octane was 89 and I had put in a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner.

I was shocked, but then again, mine is almost completely stock. I have a 4.2 jeep and a 4.3 chevy that do much worse. Something about the 5.0 and its engine management system rocks!
