255/40-17 Fit on stock 94 GT RIMS ?

Need to get new tires for the rear.

this is what I have 94 GT (3 spocker 17" RIMS)
what on there right now are 245/45-R17

255/40-17 : 1st will they fit ?
will they look better ?
speedo gear be ok ? or off a bit ?

I'm guessing by stock rims you mean the 17x8 Tri-Bars.

According to my Summit catalog, the minimum suggested rim size (in the Yokohama listing) for a 255/40-R17 is 8.5"

You could probably get them to fit, but I wouldn't reccomend it. The tire diameter is about 0.5" less than your current one, so your speedo would read about 2% faster than you're actually going.

Yes, they are the tri bars .... Looks like I will stick to the stock size, til I decide to get new rims.

Dude I'm running 275/40/17's on my 17X8 inch bullits. THey will fit no problem!!! And the speedo will still be accurate with the wider tires. The fact that they are wider with a shorter sidewall makes them virtually the same overall height after they are mounted.

The 255/40's will fit with no problems, but they will make the wheel well gap look even larger. 255/45 is a little taller than stock, but doesn't seem to effect the speedo enough to matter (about 1/2 a mph).
