I'm looking at some new all season tires, probably BFG g-Force Super Sport A/S. I am gonna run 255's front, but unsure on rear. I would like 255's so I can rotate them, but would like to gain some traction as well. Looks like it is .8 inches wider. Is that enough to really make a difference in traction with those tires? This will be on stock 17x8 rims. Thanks.

i have 275 40's all the way around, i would recommend doing this as they hand and hook pretty better, and you can rotate them too. they dont bubble out much at all either.

255 what? 255/45/17, 255/50/17?

I wouldn't put a 255/50/17, or any 50 series tire on a Mustang. It looks out of place to me, but that is just my opinion.

The track will be a little wider, so as long as the tire is quality, then it will help, but you may not notice it a whole lot in the way of gaining traction.

If it were me, I would stick with a 245/45/17 on the front and if you want the "tough" rear look a 275/40/17 will bulge decently on a stock 17x8 wheel, but it doesn't look bad.

Of course not being able to rotate all the tire will cut the life down a little.

Sizes in question are 275/40/17 and 255/40/17. I've considered 275's all around, but hear they track real bad, and this will be my daily driver. I have seen some people run tires that have a huge bulge to them, hate the look. With the A/S's I know traction won't be excellent, so really not sure if the extra .8 inch will actually help or not. The narrow tires won't be as likely to hydroplane as well, not sure if that will be an issue in the rear though. No difference in prices with the two above sizes, so it is all about performance. Thanks.

The 275's will bulge.

I have 315's out back and they find ruts and pull you to them, but its not unbearable. I havnt had a problem with them hydroplaining, so unless the 275's in question have a horrible tread rain-wise it shouldn't be an issue.

A 255/40/17 won't have as much sidewall as a 245/45/17, so if you are OK with the smaller sidewall look then it sounds like thats what you should go for. You would be able to rotate and you won't have the bulge... Its not that bad with a 275 though, i'll try to find a pic to post up.

With it being a cobra and your mods, defintely 275s. Youll love how they launch.

Now if you are cloe to 300rwhp 295s would suit you but you dont have a wide enough wheel.

So 275s it is

I would go 275's out back also, they wont bulge horrible. Its noticable, but I think it looks good.

I'd stay away from 275s on an 8" wheel...I have the BFG 275 on my 9" wheels and they need every bit of that 9 inches...the BFGs run pretty big

My 275s are fine on my 8" wide wheels and they dont look bad at all

I upgraded from 235s, dont know why the previous owner had those on there

I could spin the tires for days just by flooring it, no clutch work

The tire is available in a 45 series, but it is more expensive. Would it be better (looks/handling maybe)? I'd like 255's. I know if we were talking drag radials it would make a difference, but with a regular all season, I just don't know if the .8 inch would make a difference.

I have 265 up front and 295 in the back and have no hydroplaining problems. They do seem to find ruts rather well though

I have 255/45-17s on all four on the stock rims and love them.
