275/40/ZR17 on a 17x8 GT Rim

Hey, how you doing guys! I was searching in the Tech/Talk for similiar threads but couldn't find anything decent. I need some help with you tire guru's...Would a 275/40/ZR17 tire fit on my stock 17's that came with the car. I really love these rims because they are unique. You do not really see them everyday so I want to put the biggest tire it can get in the rear.

Anybody have done this yet, or have pics? I'm afraid it might be to big for the rim. Thanks...

Yeah it will fit - but there is no reason to go quite that big. Really a 245-255 is wide enough for an 8" wheel (depending on brand of tire).

I do run a 275/40/17 drag radial on a extra pair of wheels - they fit but bulge over quite a bit, handling certainly compromised.

They bulge a little too much for my taste but they will fit. I used to have 255's on my stockers and they looked pretty decent.

I have 275/40's on my 8 inch wheels. Tough to get them on and they do bulge a bit but not anything too bad. I did get some sidewall flex but I don't even notice it now.

Well hell...my daughter used the camera yesterday and now I can't find it. I'll have to wait until she gets home form school. Couple of hours or so.

Nittos and BFG's will have the least amount of buldge.

Goodyears will have the most.

But they all will fit.

I actually like the way it looks when I put Nitto DRs in 275/40/17s on the rears on mine. Tire shop didn't have any issues with mouting and personally think they make the car look a bit meaner and performed great on the track. I think if you go with a make that runs a little narrow like Nitto for the rears, you should be OK.

Here they are close up and also shown with 245s on the front, taken this week at the track. IMO, they make the 245s on the front look a little small.

The Nittos don't look bad, I agree...on a side note those are my favorite stock rims on a Mustang, I like the design.

LI98GTStang i had a 98 the same color and same rims as you. looks awesome. OHH BTW i love that car, and personally i think they look a lil better with dumps though..

but on the subject right now i am running 275s on my 99 cobras and they look really mean and fit nicly.

275's on stock bullitts. I think the tires were Fuzions. Not econo/somewhat performance tires. I actually liked the bulge look. Now that I have new rims with BFG's I kinda miss the bulge.
