285s too big on an 8" rim?

Aw, c'mon! You can squeeze a 315 on an 8" wheel!

:rlaugh:

Honestly, I wouldn't go over a 275. Some say that is too much, but I had them on my stockers and I did donuts and every other imaginable wreckless and abusive thing to them and never had a problem.

:eek::jaw:

wow, i dont know a tire place around here that would touch that at all. where did you get that picture?

yea, 275's fit fine, wouldnt go over that...

255 is the max recommended size. You "can" get a 275 on there, but with the sidewall bulge, you'd basically roll over on your sidewalls in hard cornering and handling will suffer. Also, you may have odd tire wear due to the stretched sidewalls to fit an 8" rim.

You should really have a 9" wide rim to do a 275.

Ford did 255/45/17's on the 94-95 Cobras with 17x8 rims

Seems the latest trend howeber is stretching tires. Import guys like to put tiny tires on big rims, while mustang guys like to put huge tires on tiny rims What's wrong with putting the right size tire on the right rim for optimum performance??

Well here are 285/40/17 on stock Cobra wheels. Pretty sure they were 8" wide :shrug:
The fronts are GSC Goodyears and the rears are Nitto 555. They had a little bit of a buldge :shrug:
